## Lord’s Day 12 ### 31. Q. Why is he called “Christ,” meaning “anointed”? **A**. Because he has been ordained by God the Father and has been anointed with the Holy Spirit1 to be our chief prophet and teacher2 who fully reveals to us the secret counsel and will of God concerning our deliverance;3 our only high priest4 who has delivered us by the one sacrifice of his body,5 and who continually intercedes for us before the Father;6 and our eternal king7 who governs us by his Word and Spirit, and who guards us and keeps us in the deliverance he has won for us.8 1 [Luke 3:21–22](/References/Bible/42%20-%20Luke/Luke3.md#21); [4:14–19](/References/Bible/42%20-%20Luke/Luke4.md#14) ([Isa. 61:1](/References/Bible/23%20-%20Isaiah/Isaiah61.md)); [Heb. 1:9](/References/Bible/58%20-%20Hebrews/Hebrews1.md#9) ([Ps. 45:7](/References/Bible/19%20-%20Psalms/Psalms45.md#7)) 2 [Acts 3:22](/References/Bible/44%20-%20Acts/Acts3.md#22) ([Deut. 18:15](/References/Bible/05%20-%20Deuteronomy/Deuteronomy18.md#15)) 3 [John 1:18](/References/Bible/43%20-%20John/John1.md#18); [15:15](/References/Bible/43%20-%20John/John15.md#15) 4 [Heb. 7:17](/References/Bible/58%20-%20Hebrews/Hebrews7.md#17) ([Ps. 110:4](/References/Bible/19%20-%20Psalms/Psalms110.md#4)) 5 [Heb. 9:12](/References/Bible/58%20-%20Hebrews/Hebrews9.md#12); [10:11–14](/References/Bible/58%20-%20Hebrews/Hebrews10.md#11) 6 [Rom. 8:34](/References/Bible/45%20-%20Romans/Romans8.md#34); [Heb. 9:24](/References/Bible/58%20-%20Hebrews/Hebrews9.md#24) 7 [Matt. 21:5](/References/Bible/40%20-%20Matthew/Matthew21.md#5) ([Zech. 9:9](/References/Bible/38%20-%20Zechariah/Zechariah9.md#9)) 8 [Matt. 28:18–20](/References/Bible/40%20-%20Matthew/Matthew28.md#18); [John 10:28](/References/Bible/43%20-%20John/John10.md#28); [Rev. 12:10–11](/References/Bible/66%20-%20Revelation/Revelation12.md#10)
